Ecopack is among the winners of the CONAI 2024 tender

We start the year strong as we just got news, we are winners!

In 2024 we submitted a product from our new line, TerraMoulds, to the CONAI tender, and our product and company are among the winners!

What is CONAI?

CONAI is a private consortium through which producers and users of packaging guarantee the achievement of the recycling and recovery targets for packaging waste set by law, based on the principle of ‘shared responsibility’ between companies, public administration, and citizens.

Each year, their call for Ecodesign rewards numerous companies that commit to putting packaging on the market that is less and less impactful on the environment. Companies are invited to revise their existing products into lighter versions, through various methods: reuse, facilitation of recycling activities, use of recycled/recovered material, raw material savings, optimisation of production processes, optimisation of logistics, simplification of the packaging system and, from 2024, also savings in virgin raw materials.

The winning product: what does it look like?

Ecopack participated in the tender with a product from the new TerraMoulds line, the plumpy.

Our TerraMoulds line is made of a different, more sustainable type of paper: in fact, it is composed of up to 40% grass fibre, and the rest of pure cellulose. Furthermore, the paper is PFAS-free, thus guaranteeing health and environmental safety.

The fibre is collected from the mowing of German golf courses and is then processed into small pellets. Compared to an equivalent pure cellulose product, the production of this paper reduces CO2 emissions by up to 75 per cent. Unlike traditional paper production, where the pulp is separated from the lignin using a lot of energy, water and chemicals, grass paper can be prepared by purely mechanical methods, leading to great energy savings and less pollution: this makes it an example of a circular economy.

Our products have also been certified OK COMPOST Industrial compostable by TÜV Austria.

 

With our new line, we have therefore redesigned some of our classic products to make them lighter and more sustainable, using four of the levers proposed by CONAI:
