Ninth Anniversary of the SDGs: Our Commitment to the 2030 Agenda

This year marks the ninth anniversary of the launch of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), the global initiative promoted by the United Nations in 2015. The 17 SDGs represent an ambitious vision for the future, aiming to eradicate poverty, protect the planet, and ensure prosperity for all by 2030. Each goal is interconnected and addresses key sectors such as health, education, gender equality, climate change, and more.

Ecopack actively supports this initiative and aims to contribute to the 2030 Agenda, committing to achieve several SDGs through its activities. Our company recognizes the importance of operating responsibly and sustainably, integrating these goals into business strategies and day-to-day operations.

Our Commitment to Sustainability

In 2023, Ecopack made significant progress in managing sustainability issues, particularly in relation to the following SDGs:

SDG 3 – Good Health and Well-being:
Ecopack places employee well-being at the center. 90% of our workforce is employed on permanent contracts, ensuring economic and professional stability. We offer various work-life balance measures and welfare programs, while also reducing biomechanical risks for workers, such as through the switch to recycled plastic pallets, which has reduced physical strain.

SDG 5 – Gender Equality:
Gender equality is a priority for us: 50% of our workforce is made up of women. This is a strong signal of Ecopack’s commitment to creating a fair and inclusive work environment. Additionally, no reports of harassment or discrimination have been filed, confirming our commitment to respect and dignity for all employees.

SDG 8 – Decent Work and Economic Growth:
30% of our employees are between 19 and 32 years old, demonstrating our commitment to offering opportunities to young people. We work to promote an ethical and transparent work environment, with communication tools that include the option for anonymous reporting. We have not received any reports of corruption-related issues, highlighting our commitment to ethical business practices.

SDG 10 – Reduced Inequalities:
We continue to commit to reducing inequalities, adopting inclusive policies and supporting our employees, even at foreign sites, where we provide financial support for managing personal or health-related issues.

Our Future Goals

As part of our ongoing commitment to sustainability, we have set ambitious goals for the future:

  • SDG 3, 5, 8, 10: Training on the ethical code, harassment, bullying, and diversity for all employees by 2025.
  • SDG 8: ISO 45001 certification for occupational health and safety management in Italy by 2026.
  • SDG 8, 10, 12, 13, 17: Continue involving 100% of our production-related suppliers in sustainability efforts, aiming to surpass 82% of suppliers scoring at least 60% on the Corporate Social Responsibility questionnaire.

Responsibility Towards the Community and the Planet

SDG 3, 4, 5, 8, 10, 11 – Commitment to the Community:
We support various organizations working in educational, social, cultural, and environmental fields. For example, Ecopack participates in the United Nations Global Compact and supports initiatives such as Treedom, which promotes sustainable agroforestry projects worldwide.

SDG 3, 9, 12, 13, 14, 15 – Product Sustainability:
Our commitment to sustainability is reflected in our products: 42% of the products sold in 2023 have compostability or recyclability certifications. Additionally, we are working to reduce the environmental impact of our production processes, as demonstrated by our 27% reduction in the plastic film used for pallets at our Italy site.

With these achievements and future commitments, Ecopack continues to actively contribute to the achievement of the SDGs, promoting a more sustainable future for all.
